FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW DOES PRAXIS DEFINE EARLY STAGE VENTURE?
Ideally, fellows join Praxis when their organization has a clear program model (even if not yet fully executing on it), has already raised its seed money (usually the first $100 - $250K) and there are at least 1-2 full time members on the team. At the same time, we look for organizations that are not so fully established that there isn’t enough space to iterate and build from ideas and mentorship generated through the program.
WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT FOR THE ACCELERATOR PROGRAM?
Each selected organization is required to attend the four in-person gatherings in their entirety. Because this is a non-residential accelerator program, time between events is less structured and there are few deliverables demanded of fellows. Prior to each in-person event, there will be brief required readings, monthly coaching calls, and a video check-in call with the entire class in anticipation of the next gathering. We typically encourage fellows to set aside an additional 3-5 hours in preparation for each in-person gathering (reading up on mentors, breakout session topics, practicing pitch, etc).
IF MY NONPROFIT HAS A BUSINESS, IS THIS THE RIGHT PROGRAM FOR ME?
Yes! Most of our accepted applicants have some form of earned income, though it’s not a requirement for application.
I WOULD LIKE TO APPLY ALONGSIDE ANOTHER TEAM MEMBER FROM MY ORGANIZATION. CAN WE BOTH APPLY?
Each selected organization may bring up to two Fellows (the second seat is an additional $3000). We strongly encourage candidates to apply with a Co-Founder. If the second applicant is not a Co-Founder he or she should be your closest thought partner in running the organization (i.e. someone you should be comfortable with in an interim leadership role if you were hit by a bus). We don’t recommend that you apply alongside a board member. This program is designed for individuals for whom their role in the venture is their full time occupation. Should your application make it to the video interview round, both applicants will be expected to be in the interview. However, please note, Praxis may - due to program space constraints of stage/fit - accept the primarily applicant only and not the secondary.
DO I HAVE TO BE A CHRIST-FOLLOWER TO BECOME A FELLOW?
Yes. While we do not have a denominational affiliation, we do ask all applicants to affirm the Apostle’s Creed. We require this because we have set out to create an environment where mentors and Fellows operate from the same baseline of beliefs, encouraging a rich conversation around the expression of faith in work.
IS PRAXIS ONLY FOR RELIGIOUSLY AFFILIATED ORGANIZATIONS?
No. Organizations that come through our accelerator are not required to have a religious affiliation. Praxis provides space for conversation where leaders can understand how the message of the Gospel informs and gives life to their work.
CAN I GO TO ONE EVENT AND HAVE ANOTHER CO-FOUNDER ATTEND ANOTHER? WHAT IF I HAVE TO MISS ONE OF THE DAYS BECAUSE OF ANOTHER MEETING?
One of the main benefits of the Praxis Accelerator is the peer community, so we require that all Fellows commit to attending all four events in their entirety. This also applies to the second Fellow who may be admitted as part of a team.
CAN I APPLY IF I JUST HAVE AN IDEA?
We accept applications from anyone, but the most competitive applicants will have something in the market. We consider exceptions from proven serial entrepreneurs, senior leaders with deep domain experience, or people working full-time on their idea that will be in market once the program begins.
WHAT IF I’M LOCATED OUTSIDE OF THE US?
Great! We’d love for you to apply to the program. Please note, if you are not a US citizen, you will need to begin visa processing well in advance of the first event.
WILL I BE ASSIGNED A MENTOR?
While you will have a team of core mentors that guide and support you during the program, we don’t believe forced, matched mentorship works, and so all mentorship in the Praxis Accelerator happens organically. Our program creates several forms of interactions between Fellows and mentors to facilitate relationship building.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE PROGRAM FINALE?
Praxis supports Fellows in an ongoing basis through their invitation to and participation in the Praxis community, including the annual Redemptive Imagination Summit. Fellows are encouraged to engage in our jobs board, content opportunities, and ongoing Praxis gatherings.
WHAT TYPES OF APPLICATIONS DON’T YOU ACCEPT?
While we accept many types of applications, we do not look for academic projects, research initiatives, or side projects. Should you have a specific question about whether your organization is a good fit, please contact us.
IF I’M NOT A FOUNDER, CEO, OR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, CAN I APPLY?
Each organization can send up to two Fellows through the application process. At least one of the applicants must be the most senior person within the organization, while the other team member need only be part of the leadership team.
I'M NOT SURE IF MY ORGANIZATION FITS THE CRITERIA. MAY I SCHEDULE A CALL WITH SOMEONE ON YOUR TEAM TO REVIEW MY ORGANIZATION BEFORE I DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT TO APPLY?
No. Praxis has a small staff and we strongly recommend that you take the time to review the information and guidelines we have provided here to help you determine whether or not you should apply. You are welcome to contact us about specific questions about our process if you do not find the answer here on the website.
